The Metropolitan Museum of Art by Maxxi Prather

On Tuesday, March 14th, a few of Jonathan Levin’s brightest 9th and 10th graders took a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan.
There, we separated into four groups and participated in a museum scavenger hunt. During this scavenger hunt, students visited different countries and continents which included Ancient Greece, the Americas, the Byzantine empire, Rome, Egypt, Europe and many more.
While in the Egyptian wing, we had the pleasure of seeing actual pharaoh tombs and Egyptian hieroglyphics (formal writing Egyptians used that consisted of pictures). We also had the chance to see the jewelry that they wore and handmade pottery from hundreds of years ago.
As I’m sure we all know, each ancient civilization, much like today, had to have a strong army in order to defend and conquer more land. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we had the chance to see the armor, protective gear and weapons they wore and used. In ancient and medieval times, it was fascinating to see how much guns have evolved from then to now. Also, to see how even so many years ago, the Chinese and Japanese were very advanced with their different techniques of making swords and knives.

Some even had jewels of many different colors, as you can see from the picture below.

With all the artifacts we had the chance of seeing, you can’t forget about the beautiful works of art. Included were abstract works of art by Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night and others. However, the work of art that caught my eye was a newcomer to the museum.. It was an abstract image of the 911 attack. The reason it caught my eye was because if you looked directly at the image you are unable to see it. You had to look at it from a side perspective and this enabled you to see the actual 911 tragedy.
If we talk about art, we have to talk about sculptures. Though very explicit, they were magnificent works of art that greatly resemble Michael Angelo’s work.
It was also nice to be able to put images with the information that we have gathered from Global History. Thanks to the photography of Michael Silvestre of 11H, you are able to see a little of what we experienced on our trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Trip to Albany by Kenya

My last school trip was to Albany to talk to Senator Jose Serano about the founding of the health clinic at our school. I went with Ms. Cone, two staff members from the health clinic and my fellow classmates. The trip was fun, especially the bus ride during which I saw movies that I had not seen. I learned how important health clinics are for schools. Also, I heard many interesting speeches that students gave on this topic.
Jose Costas - The Trip to Albany
I went on the trip to Albany. We went up there to pay a visit to the college. This trip was fun, but it also made me realize how much I really want to go to college. I saw how college life is both serious and fun. College life isn't anything like high school because teachers don’t worry about you. It is one's own responsibility to do what they have to do. I got to see the campus and it had to offer. I liked the campus because there's a lot to do when you’re not taking classes. In conclusion, college life seemed nice, fun and very serious.
Historical School Trip by Ashley Belton
I remember going on a trip with Ms. David and Ms. Johannes to a museum in downtown Manhattan. The museum had lots of exhibits on African American history. We had o tour guide take us all around and tell us the story behind each object. We saw actual silverware and clothes that belonged to real slaves and slave owners. We also saw maps and diary entries that belonged to the slaves. It was a very interesting trip and although it was sort of emotional for me I gained a lot from it.
Sleepy Hollow by Jamal
It started off with the reading of the story and quizzes, which seemed very boring to some people. For the end of the piece, we visited Tarrytown. There, we visited the gravesite of the headless horseman and had a scavenger hunt. Later on that day, we visited the house of the author of the story and had lunch on his compound. On our way back on the bus, everyone was having fun singing and conversing with each other.
Sleepy Hollow by Ashely C.
One school trip I’ve gone on and actually enjoyed was Sleepy Hollow .We went to Tarrytown. As soon as you get there, you're surrounded by beautiful trees everywhere (all types of colors). We broke up into 3 groups, received a sheet with items that we had to find, and take a picture of. We ran all over the cemetery and stumbled upon a worker who led us to a few clues. We got the chance to see revolutionary soldiers graves and also a few famous people who were buried there including Benedict Arnold. Also, we came upon this beautiful small stream with a bridge over it. It was an amazing sight. We all had a really good time and I wouldn’t mind going again.
Trip to Boston by Rohan Vines
In the tenth grade, I went on a trip to Boston. Some of the teachers that also wente were Ms. Hall, Ms. Davis and Ms. Cone. The students had a lot of fun. On town, we went to the small area were so-called witches had been put on trial. We also went to a church where choir members sang for us. There were a lot of different things that took place in Boston. If I had the chance to go back, I would!
Gigi's Trip Review
The outward bound trip was the best trip I ever went on while attending this school. The trip was three days long. It started on a Friday morning and ended on a Sunday evening. On the trip, I learned how to climb a tree that was sixty feet high while wearing rain gear and a harness to keep me from falling and dying.
At first, climbing the tree wasn’t hard. It wasn't, until I was halfway up and almost slipped for the first time because I had started climbing up and looking down at the same time. I began to panic. The climbing pegs were further away from each other than the ones before and it had become very difficult for me to stretch my legs out to them with the tight jeans I had under the rain gear.
When I had finally made it up I let out a huge sigh and began to cry like a little baby. The lady who was on waiting for me at the tree of the tree who took the harness off of me and put the swinging hook on, tried to console me by telling me that what I had done was the easy part. Looking 60 feet down, I found that very hard to believe.
She said if I wanted, I could stand up and jump or if not, just slide off. I thought about it and decided to count to three and slide off whether I was ready or not. Climbing back down that tree was not an option and standing up to throw myself off would have felt as if I was committing suicide and I didn’t want to feel that way! I counted to three with the assistance of the lady and slid off. I swung in the air for a little while and finally came to a stop. Once off I felt scared for a while but later felt happy I had done something so spontaneous for the first and maybe last time in my life!!
Luis Trip to The Jewish Heritage Museum
One trip I remember was back in the 10th grade. We went to the Jewish Heritage Museum. That trip was one of my favorites because they have actual clothing with blood still on it. It was horrific but yet educating to learn about what happened during the holocaust it felt as if we were actually there. The thing I liked most about the trip was that we were having fun but yet learning at the same time and it shows that learning can’t only be done in the class room.
Sigourney Brown's Favorite Trip
Their has been many trips I have attended, but my favorite one was when I went to Colombia university with Ms. Hines last year. I met so many interesting students and people. We learned about the student population and what it takes to attend this school. We also play games and ate many different types of food.
